Friendship : Your Definition?

Saw this on Kenny's blog, I thought it was well thought out and it's very similar to my views on friendship aswell. Decided to copy and paste his post right here for you all to see (those who are not his friends =P)

There are stages in friendship. So you could know someone for years and STILL not be close with them.

The First Stage is being Open.

There's absolutely no point in sitting there on your desktop and emoing away about why people wont talk to you - It's simply because you're not talking back. Be Proactive. Not Reactive. And once you get the friendship started, only hold secrets you deem necessary. Sharing secrets is a form of bonding many people relate to very easily. Not just talking about popular people and food - that's just the side dish compared to the Main Course.

The Second Stage is being Honest.

Never. Ever. Lie. It's not worth it. Of course in situations where the truth is impeccably convenient, it's smarter to be subtle about things. Learn the art of subtlety, learn to hold the truth and bite back lies. Friendship can be a rocky relationship sometimes, but if you play the right cards, rest assured you'll do fine.

The Third Stage - Now Here's the tricky part.

Alot of people never get here. Usually because of something we call a Clique. Someone decides to befriend X number of people, who are in good terms with each other(X normallly represents a number from 1 to 10) Any other friends will not be approached unless that someone deems it necessary(but they normally wont). This is usually because X friends can sustain them emotionally, or physically, or whatever they require from friendships. Personally, I find this wrong in a few ways:

Firstly you're being mean to people who want to be close to you. Secondly you're being wrong to yourself by prioritizing your closest friends first. But I mean I refer to this all in a worst case scenario situation, there are people who are nice after all.

So every morning. you wake up in a slightly different situation. You think about how yesterday X and Y were laughing at how silly you looked in those ice skates. But then you're not going to remember Z who wanted to ask you out to the movies to get to know you better. Cause you were busy skating, with Y and X. And it wont change unless Y and X agree to take in another person in your little group.

As contrasted to Z. Who tries SO EFFING HARD to make friends with the only person in class who will talk to her or him. Normally Z wouldnt know, scoff it off. Look for other friends.

Potentially I see this very unproductive in a relationship. Many different instances like these happen everyday. Now Z could be your soulmate. But the many days or months you lost being with other friends is totally irreplaceable. You've lost a chance, an opportunity of a lifetime.

So what is the third stage? That's having a proactive relationship with your friends. Actively talking with them, laughing at stupid things, being part of stupid things, learning how to do things together. Stuff like that makes up stage 3. If you're here congrats, but like I mentioned above: as a youngster like be below twenty, there is still much to life than being with your closest friends. Learn to diversify: those close friends wont leave you for being close friends with someone else. ITS ALRIGHT.

...like seriously did I have to tell you that? Cause if you guys dont understand the situations above, then you may need to reconsider your current friendships. Think about it.

Somehow or someway...I've been unceremoniously made the boss of this group (and till this day I still dunno why, lol)

Man and his love

Nigel Ang Zhou Tien. When I met this guy, I thought we may not get along after having a few clash of thoughts in the first few awkward minutes of meeting each other. But after a while, I dunno how the hell but we instantly clicked in the 3rd week if I'm not mistaken. I have NEVER EVER met someone who shared so many similarities with me...seriously. We always sat with each other in every class we're in ('cept English As A....blah it's too long to say) And the fact that we were almost stuck with each other in going to this place and that place made us the gay couple of AUSMAT (which is never gonna happen =P) You can say with Lee Hoong that we are the Will & Grace of the place, lol. A lil too straight-forward with his words but hey, who's complaining? My best friend in the college without a shadow of a doubt. Has also single-handledly reignited my interest in the piano as well due to his talent with his violin. His driving skills are awesome (with the exception of last Friday) and we've shared a few weird and wacky adventures (none of the gay sort, I assure all) Good luck in the future mate with whatever you do (music, studies, etc.)

Ooi Khai Wen, Jake. Fellow WWE fan, idolizes The Undertaker way too much as seen in this picture (and hence why I bolded his name in purple =P) I actually thought he was Malay at first =_= In the group, I would be the one with the witty, sharp jokes (which tend to fail at times ><) and he'll be the one with the lame jokes (although Ms. Julie beats him by a country mile) His trademark in this college has been his balancing act which has ranged from mechanical pencils to handphones (with mine dropped a few times aswell ><) and I must say he's pretty dang good at it. Will always wear the same 5 shirts to college (he had a 6th shirt after his birthday) and I think still does NOT own a pencil box till this day. Seriously...his old one is filled with stapler bullets (WTH?!) He's willing to listen to anybody's troubles, even if it is the most pettiest of things and help them out as well. A fellow workaholic as well, he can be a busy bee at times, sacrificing his time of fun. This guy has been quite great fun and can also be a bit of an eccentric person like jumping out of a vehicle and sticking his head out of the window on a highway =P But hey like I say, he's great fun to be around with.

AUSMAT's golden couple?

Kayshaan Selvam. My first official friend of AUSMAT when I was a lost soul in the course. I remembered we talked to each other for the first time when I was making a comment about Mr Jay in my first class. That was when I realised how unbelievably friendly this fella was. I thought he was mix at first due to how fair he looks but he's not (which has thrown my stereotyping out of the window) This is the gamer of the group. Has a real flair for DotA, very very pro at it until whatever he teaches me is like ancient to me. Although he is very friendly, he does tend to have a very short fuse and swears quite a bit but we tend to ignore that fact cause it only happens when he's provoked. Will always try to get people in a very cheery mood when he's able to especially when people are down and is very defensive over his girlfriend. I always thought he may end up with someone taller due to his looks but hey, he decided to choose the one he'll definitely have fun with (*cough* pinching fats *cough*) so good for ya. At least you're a sensible person.

Ong Mei Yi, Christine. I'm trying to match the colour of your jacket =P Alright I'll admit it, at first glance I thought she was just one of those girls with low self-esteem who would just whine and whine about her physique. I would be the one mentally abusing her, Kayshaan would be the one physically doing so & Nigel would do a little bit of both. After a month, it kinda got old & after getting to know her better I was like, why was I treating such a likable and bubbly girl like that? Seriously, it marked a personality transformation in me. Then, I decided to treat her like a BIG (yes i admit it now) sister cause well...she's always there to listen aswell to my problems when they arise and I'm also there to listen to her problems (although Nigel would be vantage point #1 for her) Continously teasing my very apparent lack of smiles in posing photos. She can be a bit of a dunce at times as her world geography has proven (LIVERPOOL IN RUSSIA? LOL) but she's quite an enjoyable act to be around with. Wears her heart on her sleeve for sure.

The boss is always in the middle, lol

Siow Lee Hoong, Veronica. She's the one with the brown dress. The moment I saw her, I was like 'she reminds me of a fox' And yeah, I always had that floating in my mind for 1 1/2 months until I finally got her name, lol. She's the safest driver amongst this group that's for sure and thank god for that. Always there to support you when you're down as well (actually almost this whole group does that anyway) and is quite a good listener. She has quite the busy schedule, sending people back from college numerous times. Will always ask Miss Ruba to give break while coming up with the most extraordinary of excuses to do so, lol. Is always stuck with the 2 girls in that picture, very very rarely do you see them apart so you can see how strong that bond is. She's definitely the Grace in the so mythed 'Will & Grace relationship' between me & Nigel and I'll always definitely remember her as the 'hehehe' girl in Messenger. Oh and she doesn't smile often in camera photos as well so I'm not alone xD

Yong Ying Hui. The one in the white dress. The smart one in our group & no, she is nowhere near nerd level at all. The first time I ever noticed her was during the scholarship award thingy where she had the full waiver (OMG...so many A1s) and admittedly, I was actually kinda challenged by her in that aspect. Always would want to be better than her such is my crazy competitive streak that I adopted since primary school (don't let my relaxed demeanor full you =P) But after a few outings, I thought she was pretty OK to hang out with. Can be a bit assertive in her points and beliefs (but not to the levels of Wei Lai =P) but is always realistic about life. And of all the girls in AUSMAT, she definitely has the coolest hairstyle, it's oh so unique. First time I actually saw it on a girl.

So that's basically the core group I hang out with, these are a few others who I also have good connections with in this course.

Her smile is very sweet, seriously

Lim Mei Yan, Rachel. Yes, she's the one I asked out to that event DU-rians (the left one if you guys didn't know already) The first time I heard her name (was in McDs at Central waiting for bus to go to Genting) I was like, 'Who?' Then after getting to know her abit better at Genting (actually, it's more like getting to know her since I never ever knew her before then) I thought she was someone I could really like err...relate to. She's generally very sweet and kinda has most of the good characteristics that resemble my sister (but no, I don't treat her as a sister) and she's quite innocent I tells ya, so different from the other girls I've met in my life (but that's not many so...) One of only two girls I know in the course that actually reads a bit of manga...though it's those love story-like types that I get bored off easily, lol. She's definitely got the sweetest smile I've ever seen, it's quite a smile...I so envy it =P I'm kinda glad to meet her, it's quite a change from the very pretentious girls I would probably meet in my life. Oh and did I ever say she was sweet?

BLOWFISH POSE!

Lee Jian Wei, Ian. He's actually part of the core group as well but I kinda left him out since I don't talk to him that often, sorry mate =P Anyways, what can I say? Pure athlete, very good at basketball and ping pong (I'm not sure at futsal but I'm sure he's pretty good at it aswell) Don't let his small stature fool you, he's got some serious guns (abit like Dat Han don't you think?) He has made this very lala, blowfish pose to almost a phenomenon in the course with many people (including me =_=) following that very pose. He's also part of the reason why I've reignited my interest in the piano due to how he plays the guitar. He's pretty much a kid at heart as well and alot of people would know why I say that =P

We must be good boys if Santa touches us ^^

Simon Sim Song Wei. The moment I saw this guy...hmm...he looked pretty lost during IS class (some computer-related class) And I could sense a little bit of fear in this guy. I think we knew each other better in the English class. And the 1st thing that really caught my attention from this guy is how bloody well he draws. It's so comic-ish and I love those comic-ish drawings. He's your modern-day comic book fan, with so much knowledge on the Marvel & DC superheroes. He draws The Joker, Batman, Superman, etc. like it's pretty much nothing to him. He's got a very confident aura, when he finally did adapt to the surroundings. Blardy quick too in futsal...I really underestimated him there.

Higher, higher!

Tan Khim Juan. He's the guy in blue (front). The 1st thing I instantly noticed was the way he held his pencil, it was exactly the same as my sister's...rest on 4th finger xD And he has a wierd way of introducing himself as well. The first thing he said to me was, 'where do you live?' As time passed on, he really begun to grow on me, his actions especially. Some of his quotes are legendary such as when we were talking bout Jin Han & Heng Hao (I think it's these 2 xD) watching porn and we were stating maybe Khim Juan had some in his phone since he gets really excited over these type of subjects and he responded, 'NO LA! My phone virgin la' xD. His way of spelling names is quite amusing as well...it could have taken me 30 minutes to rectify the amount of mistakes in his phone =P Very, very practical guy and I say that cause he doesn't know who's Santa Claus and that's quite a refereshing change from guys who can just be like scheming things.

And that's pretty much the people in my course that I frequently would talk to. I would like to add names of people who I've also had a good laugh or two (and had talked to before =P) so thank you to:

My post title refers to a quote that was said today =P

IN FACT, I think I'll keep doing this type of titling

So anyways, I probably had the most gruesome shopping road trip I've ever experienced. From Ara Damansara -> Atria -> Petaling Street

A total of 7 hours of shopping, walking, discussion, haggling, bargaining, you name it

And the quote, 'I hate shopping' popped up numerous times, as 5 out of the 6 who went are all guys

I wasn't one of them btw =P I'm used to shopping, so my legs have been readily built for events such as this

Oh and did I mention....that Tan Khim Juan is an awesome driver? Yes, he truly is awesome (plus his car is awesome as well =P)

I'm as exhausted as *bleep* and Chuen experienced cramping which prompted that quote

Hunting for decorations is such a hassle, sigh...there's always this shop which has great stuff yet another shop would sell almost the same stuff at cheaper prices...it almost happened all the time back there.

But hey, it's all for charity which is awesome eh?

That Fantasy Premier League is back again!

That game where most people lose interest within 14 weeks or so

That this one was better than the January one

Coz at least there was food in this one =P

So I decided to go there in the end

After some persuasion once again

And umm...I did go out with someone

And umm...I gave her a rose...

The whole night was quite nice to be honest

Jus a quick summary of the performances

The lighting was beautiful btw

Beatboxing/Rapping - I like the beatboxing, didn't feel the love from the rapping though. Did get better though with those dancers up there

Magic Show - Lame ass with the rope trick. Even a scout can do one of those rope tricks tbh. His last trick though was amazing...simply amazing & yet disgusting as well

Jamie's Piano Piece - I loved it, always appreciated piano but most of the crowd were just being disrespectful pricks. Talking throughout the whole performance. Piano quality = Crap though. Keys dun sound strung properly.

Sun-U's Dance Club's...Dance (xD) - Grease Lightning dude/Cha-Cha dancer owns =P The gals were swooning over him

Revolution's Dance - I dun like the song they were dancing to

Iranian Musical Performance - I actually found this my favourite tbh. Especially when the fella played fast with the guitar, sounded Latin. My feet were automatically moving =D

Past Freshie King/Queen Performance - The girl can only shake her ass...while the guy has a full arsenal of dance moves

So yeah, I think that was about it

For performances

Dance floor opened up

But they were playing all fast songs

I hate dancing to fast songs

Not that I'm even good a dancer mind ya =P

And me & my date were like...totally lost since we dunno how to dance fast xD

Still danced for a while though =P

The night was...

UNEVENTFUL!!!

Much to Kayshaan's dismay

He was hoping one of the four girls would pull down his boxers or something along those lines

What I found weird was

I woke up at 7.20

He woke up 12-15 seconds later

Found out that Nigel & Co woke up around 7.10-ish

Boys wake up automatically at the same time....

Weird

I felt giddy when I woke up so I decided to do this

Wasted...

Not as bad as Clement though

He suffered big-time hangover

Puked ALOT

Still he was able to go the theme park

It was raining heavily when we woke up

So the chances of going to the theme park looked slim

Luckily, it stopped quite early in the end

So we could still go there

Plenty of rides to ride on

But only rode on 4

Stupid rain!!!

One was that flying carousel

And Clement was right in front of me!

You know Physics...stupid velocity & so forth

So I was scared he would puke and I would be on the receiving end

He didn't puke, phew

Went on Go Karts, track has expanded

My car sucked, it was like a Sunday drive only

At least I overtook someone =D

Corkscrew Roller-Coaster go on

Went in the front of the car

Wasn't as bad as imagined

Rachel was the only sober one that didn't go on the ride

So unsporting =(

Last thing we went on was that water ride thing

Girls get extremely emo when they're hungry, they swear like mad even more than men when they are - Rachel & Angeline

Boys are almost telephatically linked when it comes to waking up

Kayshaan & Mei Yi would not enjoy each other's company by about 90% if they both didn't contain any fats =P

Genting is an extremely popular holiday spot for teens =P

Mei Yi's piercing screams can deafen even the strongest of ears

Seems most of the DU-rians have gone to Genting for hols =P

Although my inclusion was a total LAST MINUTE thing

Literally 11th hour stuff, finally getting permission

No one (except Mei Yi) knew I was coming

10 people went on this trip (9 were at Central, the other, Rachel was aledi at Genting wif her parents)

But there were more AUSMAT-ians in Genting aswell under their own agenda

Trip: Me, Nigel, Vui Chung, Clement, Yew Kean, Kayshaan, Mei Yi, Angeline (Nigel's KOREAN gf), Veronica & Rachel

Other notable sightings: Simon, Symone, Wai Yee, Derrick, VC's sister & 2 others that I dunno

So my presence at KL Central was kinda unexpected. It's like they knew the mystery guy was going to be me, lol. Bus only leaves at around 10.30 and we all arrived at 8-8.30, so random random pictures were taken at Central.

Me and my pet little sister Mei Yi (forcing me to smile with my teeth showin X_X)

After 2 hours of idle chat, bus came, went in, tried sleeping, listened to music, all the stuff you do in the bus when you're tired. Went on cable car once again, had a beetle incident which resulted in loud piercing screams. Went to First World but did not go into the hotel over there. Went to err...Genting (or wazzit Highlands?) Hotel. The hotel room we booked had this fantastic view.

Since there were 2 beds for 4 people and a sofa for 1

So I was the one voted to sleep in the girls' room (sofa one obviously =P) since I was the late comer

But since the other 4 (Nigel & Kean) were very drunken at that time

Kayshaan came in and slept in the girls' room as well, on the floor

Yup...whole new experience for me this whole thing, lol

Before going on to probably what will be my 2nd most favourite movie of the year...

I actually saw Jaclyn Victor at OU...before I bought the Get Smart tickets

WOW is she tall...

Albeit with the help of high heels xD

Honestly, after seeing the trailer for this movie

I had very high expectations for this movie

Lived up to my expectations that's for sure

Absolutely loved it

Considering I also watched the series for this before thanks to my mom when I was young

They definitely got the right people to play the characters

Agent 99 & Agent 86 aka Max Smart

They definitely got the right character to play Max. Steve Carell, big joker in The Office was perfect to be the goofy yet lovable main character of this movie. I wonder who else could have played him, hmm... Agent 99, hell yeah it had to be Anne Hathaway. Agent 99 was supposed to be brunette & have a smokin hot, slim, elegant body. Plus, she's supposed to be classy (unlike Megan Fox who doesn't have a classy face) Actually this movie kinda changed my perspective on Anne. I always thought she was very ugly (but yet has a magnificent figure) but on the big screen, hey not bad. Definitely looks great in this film.

The dialogue in this movie is funny, quirky & definitely sharp. Loved all the funny scenes especially the modified Swiss Army Knife Max had to use in the airplane. Note to self, never take anything modified by Masi Oka =P

Look at Masi Oka's face, LOL!!! It's like he's trying to stop time once again

There were 2 WWE wrestlers involved as well, The Rock (D. Johnson) & The Great Khali (Dalip Singh once again!) And the craziest thing about both of them is well...

Oo...such an unlucky day for Westerners. A lucky day for Easterners, lol.

But I guess today is quite unlucky for me thanks to a few events.

For starters, today was my English As An Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) exam. Evaluation Exam 2 I think, big paper =P

We're like the guinea pigs of this paper, 1st time batch to take this.

Why does most things that involves me in the study world have to be so like either first or last...

- Last batch to take PTS exam

- First batch to learn Science & Maths in English

- First batch to have the English & BM exams for PMR to change format

- First batch to take this EALD exam

To quote Wyn Yau when my former G2 CAT class had to attend Mr. Bill's class till 8pm (allegedly 8 but I think they ended at 6 =P)

Seriously...

Exam was at 9...I went out at 8. Arrived there at 9.10...late for exam for 1st time =_= Wasn't my fault at all. Had to overcome stupid traffic jam which was a result of an accident. Took a detour and that was also jammed up so we're like so screwed and I thought I would really be in trouble...serious big trouble. Unlucky in that sense I guess.

Exam was OK but I think I screwed up the 3rd section, haih. Later on decided to play basketball and that was when unfortunate event #2 happened. Bent my specs after getting a wicked elbow on my jaw while trying to steal the ball...which somehow bent me specs. I blame karma for this =P

Coz I accidently elbowed my friend on the lips when we played the last time...so karma certainly is a b**ch.

Unlucky event #3...my water bottle leaked and the dictionary that was inside is now super wet & crumpled. My mom went totally berserk when that happened. Man what a crappy day >_<

Thankfully, I still have my spare specs with me. My super POWER SHADES (yes it has power xD)

This thing cost a freakin bomb

But it's damn well worth it

Can read my Kingdom Hearts II manga still, lol

The 'Ultra' Long Day In The College Area

Yesterday...was probably my longest day in Sunway. 8am arrived, 8pm went back. Not that I'm complaining since alot of my other friends have gone on longer than this, lol. So yea, eventful day of events...& all my different emotions were out in full force.

8 am-12 pm

Ah the tension of stupid Applicable Maths test. Had Accounts first but teacher wasn't around. Gave us some work to do but I lz do it (was a shock to my friends) since I had been anxious n panicky over the Maths exam. Eventually...I went and played pool (aiyo, cannot resist playin it) to release me tension. Played like 2 games there and the 2nd game was probably the crappiest game I've ever experienced in my entire life. It was a 3-on-1 game with me, Nigel & Wei Jie (red ball) against the loud-mouth that is Kayshaan (yellow ball) Will say any shot that goes in from us is a fluke O.o So it was like this, I thought I could sneak the last red ball in past the 8-ball but I was obviously proven wrong and the end result was this.

So how do you get that 8-ball in then?

So it was probably the craziest game ever. So many fouls. We practically broke like so many rules in this game. In the end, we won because he made a mistake but probably was a forced mistake since we all frustrated, lol.

THEN I WENT STUDY CRAZY!!!

Went late to the exam hall because me & Jeffrey were...err...bz studyin extra notes ^^ I thought exam was 30 minutes but it actually 20 minutes...I was like 'WTF! NO FREAKIN WAY!' Wah liao, damn rushin oni I do the questions. End up dunno how to do last question. Completely cracked my head da whole exam. Felt like crying then I end up doing pose...dowan to post since I know Ting Yee will say I copy his choking pose =P

Damn sad la me after all that =(

12pm-5pm

So what did I do to drown my sorrows?

Nah I didn't drink myself silly in some stupid bar =P

I ended up meeting Nigel at the basketball court and 'played' basketball for a good 5 minutes. Jus practiced my 3-point shooting and I ended up sweating buckets only. What the hell la, play 5 minutes and I sweat like mad. But Nigel's VIOS...the air-con...at full power was like freakin heaven.

Went to Pyramid with him & the gang to watch stupid Kung Fu Panda. I was seriously skeptical bout the movie and it didn't disappoint me at all. The way the panda trains kung fu and how he wins the final fight was just pure weird and lame IMO. Funny show overall though especially the names of the characters. Oogway for the tortoise master, lol (I didn't laugh at first since you all know i 80% banana =_=)

I know my left arm is not as big as Nigel's right arm =_=

5pm-8pm

After movie, I went back to the college campus. Quite early I was so I decided to write some stuff in my directory (which has been talked about in my previous post) Then I see everyone finished up and going to pick up their bags. First I see Wyn Yau & Han Yang. They both looked sad & I kinda feared the worst since it was T5...like the hardest paper of the current semester. Then see Su Yi, Hazel, Teik Wei, Yew Siong & Ram...all complaining about how hard & ambigous the paper was. Hmm...I felt their sadness aswell, I'm such an emotionful guy >_<

Well no time to dwell over something that was done, we had to celebrate Francis Chiak's (not real surname btw =P) b-day. He's an Ultraman dude, haha. We went to Pyramid (yes I went there again) via 3 cars. I went with Michael (the driver/tai koh), Yew Siong/Sean (the best friend), Su Yi (the chick) and I guess I am the supposed smart-lookin guy in a quartet since I'm the oni one wearin specs, lol. I tell you, being inside Mike's car was a combination of heaven & hell for me. I loved the speed at how he went, wind blowing at my face was so nice but the fact that I know this is driving that could potentially kill me kept floating in my mind (no offence Mike but I very kia si person, lol)

Was first group to leave but ended up as last group to arrive despite all that speed. Initially supposed to go to TGI and I was wondering why the others were outside while the whole place looked empty. Fully reserved =_= So went to Italianies and well...my wallet couldn't cope with it =( Ended up owing money yet again, haih. Michael & Hazel couldn't stop err...debating at the table throughout most of the time over there. Then finally cake came out and we had Francis doing all sort of weird stuff, haha.
